Subject: Regularization of SSA accounts opened by Grandparents, other than guardian.

Madam/Sir,

Kindly refer to this division letter no. FS-65/1/2023-FS-DoP dated 09.01.2023 (copy enclosed).

2. As per rule 3 (1) and 3 (2) of Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme, 2019, the account may be opened by one of the guardians in the name of a girl child and every account holder shall have a single account under this Scheme.

3. As per rule 24 (4) of Government Savings Promotion General Rules, 2018, if at any stage it is found that an account has been opened, or a deposit made, in contravention of the rules, the Accounts Office shall close the account forthwith and refund the amount deposited without any interest.

4. As per SB Order No. 05/2024, all cases of SSA accounts opened by grandparents, other than guardian have to be regularized by the MOF. In order to take up the case with MoF for regularization, it is requested to cause to furnish consolidated details (in Excel format) of all such SSA accounts that are opened by Grandparents only (who are other than legal guardian)in the following format.

5. Accounts opened by other than guardian i.e., Mother/Father/Legal Guardian/ Grandparents shall be dealt separately. Therefore, all Circles to ensure that a complete data in respect of each SSA account opened by Grandparents only who are not a legal guardian as per the format given above should be furnished by 10.02.2025.

6. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.

This may kindly be treated as URGENT.
