Objection of AIPEU Postmen & MTS Union regarding introducing Independent Delivery Centers in DOP

Sub: Steps to introduce Independent Delivery Centers - Enforcement of mechanized delivery beats unmindful of our objection - Intimation

Regarding Protest action on 27.01.2025 - reg

We wish to intimate that this Circle Union will be conducting a Demonstration program as part of Trade Union action to protest against the proposal of setting up of Independent Delivery Centers (IDC). The protest demonstration will be conducted at all Divisional Headquarters across the Circle on 27.01.2025 opposing this move which is nothing but major step towards detaching the delivery work from the Department of Posts and aiming mass reduction of delivery staff and facilitating outsourcing. Reports are already pouring in through social media that Anna Nagar Western Extension and Ambattur Industrial Estate Post offices have been identified for IDCs and some more major delivery offices of Chennai city North division and Tambaram division are targeted for IDCs. Not only will the strength of the delivery staff be drastically reduced but also the number of Post Offices are in the danger of being shrunk to the disadvantage of customers. This rapid action on the part of administration has caused widespread resentment among the postmen staff.

Further this Circle Union would like to draw the attention of the Circle level administration that Regional Administrations are simply making unilateral decision in identifying all the beats as Mechanized delivery beats. In Regions like CCR, for name sake, discussion was held with the staff side in which the views of the staff side was heard for name sake but the administration has gone ahead with the decision of identifying all the beats as mechanized delivery beats.

Our Circle Union would like to draw the attention that majority of Postmen have not given their consent for using their own vehicles for delivery work. In this situation identifying all the beats as mechanized delivery is nothing compulsion and coercion of postmen staff to use their own vehicles. This is totally not acceptable to thei Circles Union.

Hence the Circle Union would like to urge the Circle Administration to stop this atrocious approach in implementation of the IDCs and mechanized delivery forthwith. Further going ahead with these dangerous and anti-worker proposals will result in intensification of industrial action on the part of this Circle Union. We hope that Circle Administration will see reason and maintain industrial harmony by dropping this proposal of IDCs and mechanized delivery beats at once.
