Government Servants and HRA Benefits

There is no restriction on drawing House Rent Allowance (HRA) for government servant couples living together in hired or owned accommodation. Both spouses are eligible for the normal amount of HRA, regardless of their marital status or joint residence. (Reference: G.I. M.F. O.M. No. F/11015/2/87-E II (B), dated 8-11-1988)

Occupation of Inspection Quarters

Inspecting officers posted for extended periods are not entitled to occupy inspection quarters for more than 7 days at their headquarters. During this period, they will not be eligible to claim HRA. (Reference: D.G. (P) No. 7-1/87-NB dated 28-04-1988)

Accommodation for Lady Officers

A separate pool of accommodation is maintained for lady officers. The allotment ratio for married lady officers and single lady officers (including widows with or without children) is 2:1, as per Rule 27 of the CGGIPRA Rules 2017.

Eligibility for Staff Quarters

Government employees can submit their applications for staff quarters online or manually through their offices within a month of joining duty. As per Rule 10 of the CGGPRA Rules 2017, every employee is entitled to government accommodation. However, no application will be entertained within 6 months of the date of superannuation.
