Cabinet Approves opening 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas in varous state

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to open 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India, catering to the Civil and Defence sectors. Additionally, the existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka, will be expanded to accommodate more students. This move aims to provide top-notch education to children of Central Government employees and others, ensuring consistent standards nationwide.


Key highlights of this initiative:

  • Total Funding: ₹5872.08 crore will be allocated over eight years (2025-2033), with ₹2862.71 crore for infrastructure and ₹3009.37 crore for operational costs.
  • Student Beneficiaries: The 85 new KVs and the expanded KV in Shivamogga will benefit 82,560 students, providing them with access to quality education.
  • Employment Opportunities: This initiative will create direct employment for 5,388 individuals and additional indirect jobs through construction and allied services.
  • Expansion of Shivamogga KV: The KV in Shivamogga will add two sections per class, catering to the growing demand for quality education in the region.
  • Importance of Kendriya Vidyalayas: KVs provide uniform, high-standard education across the country, particularly for children of Central Government and Defence employees. They cater to students from diverse backgrounds, including those from remote and underserved areas.
