- The Department of Posts has issued guidelines for refunding unused postage in franking machines that have been condemned or discontinued before the full value of postage is exhausted.
- Circles are required to strictly adhere to the prescribed time limit of three months for processing refund claims.

OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Subject: Refund on unused units of postage in franking machines - regarding.
The undersigned is directed to refer Sl.No.13(c)(i)(e) of the Schedule - II of the Delegation of Financial Powers to HoCs/HoDs issued by DoP vide O.M No. 6-1/2021-Fin.Coord dated 30.07.2021, which stipulate that HoC/HoD may sanction refund in respect of unused units of postage in a franking machine which has been condemned or the use of which has been discontinued before the full value of the postage for which the machine has been set by the Post offices has been exhausted, provided that the claim is preferred within three months of the date on which the machine has been condemned has been discontinued.
2. In this regard, it is once again requested to all Circles to strictly adhére to the prescribed time limit of three (3) months for cases of refund of unused units of postage in franking machines.
3. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
