Subject: Regarding Geofencing of Postal Index Number Code (PIN Code) area boundary.
This is regarding ongoing activity of data sanitization of geofencing of PIN Code area boundaries, being carried out in all the Postal Circles under Phase II of the Geofencing activity. to ensure data quality of mapped PIN Code boundaries.
2. It has been observed from the PIN Code boundary areas mapped, under Phase I of the activity, that there are certain areas:
3.
a) which are not covered by any PIN Code boundary and;
b) for which the PIN Code boundaries are intersecting, leading to allocation of two or more PIN Codes to that particular intersecting area.
To tackle the above-mentioned issues, a functionality to auto-detect such uncovered areas and intersecting areas, has been developed in the Web portal being used for the said purpose. Further, the prescribed map by the Survey of India, has also been incorporated as a layer in the Geofencing Web portal so as to enable field units to earmark the boundaries of all the PIN Codes across the area of the country as per official map.
4. In this context, the competent authority has directed to undertake the following action for early finalisation of the sanitisation of the dataset:
a) to map a PIN Code for each and every area covered under the official map of the country, as prescribed by the Survey of India which has already been incorporated in the Web Portal:
b) Any left-over/uncovered areas may be covered under the adjoining PIN code; and
c) to align the PIN code area boundary with the international boundaries and state boundaries, in accordance with the prescribed boundaries by the Survey of India and incorporated in the application as a layer, where ever applicable.
5. It is to further inform that the geo-fenced PIN Code layer data created through this exercise will be made available for utilization by citizens, government and other entities. Therefore, the Circles are further requested to ascertain the correctness of the boundaries in the Web portal. 6. The Phase-ll of the geofencing activity may be completed by 1st week of December, 2024. 7. This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
