Indian Postal Department Simplifies Digital Life Certificate Generation for Pensioners
To ease the process of obtaining digital life certificates, the Indian postal department has launched an initiative to assist pensioners. This move addresses the challenges faced by elderly and infirm pensioners who struggle to physically visit pension disbursing agencies.
Leveraging Postal Network and Technology
The postal department, with its vast network of post offices, has integrated with the Jeevan Pramaan application (National Informatics Centre, Government of India) to facilitate digital life certificate (DLC) generation.
Doorstep Service and Accessibility
Pensioners can contact their nearest post office or request a doorstep visit by a postman or Grameen Dak Sevak. This service is available to both India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and non-IPPB customers.
Hassle-Free Process
The DLC issuance process is paperless, seamless, and hassle-free, requiring only biometric authentication using the pensioner's Aadhaar number.
Nominal Fees, No Doorstep Charges
A nominal fee of Rs. 70 (inclusive of GST/CESS) is charged for each successful DLC generation, with no doorstep charges.
Pre-Requisites
Pensioners must have:
- Aadhaar number
- Registered mobile number
- Aadhaar number registered with pension disbursing agency
- Pension details (type, sanctioning authority, disbursing agency, PPO number, account number)
Accessing Digital Life Certificate
Upon successful generation, pensioners receive a Pramaan ID from NIC to download their DLC from the Jeevan Pramaan website.

- Provides convenience and efficiency for pensioners
- Ensures seamless access to pension benefits, particularly for those relocated after retirement or facing mobility challenges
