Sub:- Request for providing directions to the BSNL field units for urgent upgradation of existing lower bandwidths VPNOBB links (<2 Mbps working on copper last mile) of the Department of Posts (DOP) to 2 Mbps: - Reg.
Ref: Letter of even no. dated 24.07.2023 and clarification dated 04.08.2023.
Your kind attention is invited to this office letter of even no. dated 24.07.2023 vide which BSNL field units were requested for upgradation of existing lower bandwidths MPLS links (<2 Mbps) of the Department of Posts (DOP) to 2 Mbps.

2. Now, in a similar manner, the upgradation of the existing lower bandwidths VPNOBB links (<2 Mbps working on copper last mile) are also required to be upgraded to 2 Mbps as per the request of DoP.

3. Presently around 15562 nos. of VPNOBB links are working on fibre/copper as last

mile.

4. Since, upgradation of such a large number of links by the field units could take a lot of time, hence it was decided that upgradation of the links working on fiber last mile (i.e. VPNOFTTH) will be implemented centrally by BBNW/ ITPC Circles. Around 8000 VPNOFTTH shall be upgraded by today and work for rest of the VPNOFTTH is in progress.

5. However, the upgradation of the VPNOBB links with last mile on copper shall be carried out by the respective field units after due testing of the health of the copper pair so as to ensure the QoS and good performance of the links after the upgradation.

6. Accordingly, the following plans and package IDs have been created by the ITPCs for all the four zones.

Table-1 DoP VPNOBB plans for 2 Mbps (for copper)

In view of the above, it is kindly requested to direct the field units for upgradation of the existing lower bandwidths VPNOBB links working on copper last mile to 2 Mbps as per the plan name and package id mentioned in the Table-1 (if technically feasible). Further, if feasible these links may also be shifted on fiber as per the plan name and package id mentioned in the Table-2.

This issues with the approval of the CGM CN(Tx-N).
