What is an Infotype?
A SAP Infotype is an information unit used to store employee relevant data required for administration and payroll purposes. It has a 4 digit-code and a related name. It stores similar data into one screen.
For example, Personal Data (Infotype 0002) stores the employee’s personal data (i.e., first name, last name and date of birth)

SAP infotye field has two types which is Mandatory have a tick in the field. 
and Optional fields which are blank.
SAP Infotypes have been pre-defined number ranges which are configured in SAP Module by default.
InfoType shortly denotes as IT
IT0000 to IT0999 defined for the purpose of HR or Payroll Management (0000-0999)
IT1000 to IT1999 defined for the purpose of Organizational Management (1000-1999)
IT2000 to IT2999 defined for the purpose of Time Management (2000-2999)
IT4000 to IT4999 defined for Recruitment (4000-4999) purposes.IT9000 to IT9999 reserved for Customers (9000-9999)
