Sub: Important Instructions regarding SGB Interest Credit Issues

This is regarding SGB Interest Credit Issues. A significant number of complaints from investors are being received regarding the non-credit of interest in connection with their Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) investments. After careful analysis, certain reasons contributing to these issues have been identified. The following instructions may be circulated to mitigate future complaints from customers.

1. Encourage Customers to Provide POSB Account Information: Customers should be encouraged to provide their Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) account details whenever possible when investing in SGB.

2. Verify Bank Account Details: In cases where customers insist on using non-POSB bank accounts, it is important to emphasize the necessity of providing the details of their latest bank accounts. Sometimes, it is observed that bank details supplied are wrong on account of bank mergers.List of such major bank mergers and their corresponding new bank IFSC code is enclosed. It is crucial to ensure that customers provide correct and up-to-date bank account details.

3. IFSC Code Accuracy: To prevent issues related to incorrect IFSC codes, it is essential to double-check the accuracy of the code provided by the customer. The following guidelines should be emphasized:

Ensure that the IFSC code provided is an 11-digit alphanumeric code.

Pay special attention to distinguishing between '0' (zero) and 'o' (alphabet), as well as between '5' (five) and 's' (alphabet).

This may be circulated to all post offices for information and necessary action.
