As per Rules, the payment of Maturity amount can be done in the following three mode.

- by Cash Upto Rs.20000/-
- by Cheque
- by POSB Credit.
As per CBS Manual Rule No 121, (3) Procedure to be followed for closure
Closure of account may proceed by cash upto 19999/-, If the amount will be Rs.20000/- or above, closure amount can be paid either by credit to POSB Savings Account or by Postmaster Cheque. which does not mean, the below amount of Rs.20000/- can not paid by cheque or SB credit.
Lets see the Payment of Claim Amount & Mode of Payment
Claim amount should be paid either credit to POSB account or by Cheque. Cash payment is not allowed in case of death claim even the claim amount below Rs.20000/-
As per CBS Manual Rule no.60 (10) Payment of Claim (iii): All payment of deceased claim case should invariably be made by cheque or credit into savings account of the claimant.
Hence, the Payment of the deceased claim cases should be made by Cheque or Credit into Savings Account of the claimant.
