A large number of students of different schools across the district participated in the painting competition organised by the Postal Department at the Suramangalam head post office in the city on Sunday.
The event was jointly organised by the Salem East and Salem West Postal Divisions in connection with the ‘TANAPEX 2017’ State-level philately exhibition scheduled in Chennai from January 5 – 8.
The competition was held in two categories – category I for students of classes I – IV; and category II for the students of classes VI – X. The students were asked to paint on any of the topics of ‘clean India’, ‘dream of India’ and ‘pollution less Salem city’ on the mail vans.
S. Naveena (Sri Vidhya Mandir Matriculation School, Shivajinagar, Salem) won the first prize in senior category, followed by V. Kanishkaa (Sri Vidhya Mandir-CBSE, Salem Steel Plant, who finished second and T. Kaviprasath (Jayarani Matriculation HSS, Salem) who was placed third.
In the junior category, the first prize went to S. Sharukkhan (Bharadha Madha Aided School, Gugai, Salem), the second prize to S. Samantha (Sri Vidya Mandir Matriculation HSS, Salem Steel Plant) and A. Mouliprasanth (Sri Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Kondalampatti) was placed third.
E.R. Palanisamy, Superintendent of Post Offices, distributed prizes and certificates to the winners.
In Erode, school students expressed their imagination with colours on mail vans on the premises of Head Post Office on Sunday. They will be enjoying the privilege of having their skills portrayed throughout the district as the two mail vans on the move will have intact the paintings on three topics: Pollution-free Erode, India my Dream and Swacch Bharath.
Three prizes were given in each category and all others received consolation certificates. They were judged by drawing master Vallinarayanan
